Thrifty Christmas Mantle

If you are a regular reader of my blog then you already know I am living with my dad after his stroke.  He hasn’t decorated for Christmas for years, normally spending the holiday with family.  This year I wanted to decorate his home and make it cheerful without breaking the bank.  Our attic in Richmond is full of  Christmas bins but I didn’t want to push my luck by asking Steve to bring some things here on the plane.

The mantle was decorated on a budget by buying the green garland and ribbon from Michael’s on Black Friday when it was 70% off.  I was able to buy a huge box  of the silver garland at a garage sale for $1.00.   The Steuben vase and candle belongs to dad.  It is simple and thrifty but still says Christmas Cheer.

Thanks for visiting and I hope to see you at the Open House party
starting Wednesday evening.

  1. I bet this just cheered him right up! I remember decorating my in-laws tree every year when we would go down to Fl. I know my FIL really appreciated me doing it. I love the ribbon and the vase is beautiful!!! XO, Pinky

  2. Sherry what a deal on the garland, you're my kind of shopper. And I love how you blended your Dad's vase and candle with the new items. You've reminded us all that decorating can be an expression of love. Hope Dad is doing well.
