Family Room In Our New Home

Moving ain’t for sissies!
It has been a long and difficult process that started with the movers from Hell.  I’ll be back
with more on that at a later time.
I wanted to give you a glimpse of the family room,  though the room is far from finished.  Just ignore the stickers on the furniture and the lack of pictures hung.

Below is what the Family room looked like on moving day…..

and the room with the prior owners furniture.

That’s the family room so far.  I’ll be back with more pictures of our new home soon.

Any suggestions on where to buy reasonably priced 132″ long drapery panels?  There are a total of six windows in our home that need this length and boy are they expensive!

Thanks for visiting and have a great week.

Hugs

  1. Even though you're not fully settled, I love the changes you've already made! I can't wait to see the full reveal! 🙂

  2. Sherry,
The family room is looking good…love all the windows you have in there. Sorry, I don't have any suggestions on thrifty window coverings. I guess you don't want to hear about the beautiful custom drapes that I found at a garage sale this weekend…get this…$20 and the rod and hardware was included. You just never know what you might find out thriftin'. Looking forward to seeing more of your new home.
    Blessings,
    Linda

  3. Sherry, what a beautiful new home you have! You have done a great job of pulling it together so quickly. I laughed about the stickers. When we last moved, our girls were a lot younger. We made a game of them finding all of the stickers. We gave them a few cents for each sticker that they found. They loved it! Lol!

  4. Looking good! I ended up sewing my own curtain panels because I couldn't find the length I needed. If you don't sew you could buy the fabric and find a seamstress. A great fabric source is onlinefabricstore.net.

  5. What a great room, Sherry! So nice that it is light and bright. It is going to look great once you have it the way you want. Maybe check JC Penney. I'm pretty sure they had some longer lengths as options. Them and Pottery Barn, too.

I don't think there is anyone who has ever had a perfect move when you have a company do it for you. I know we had several issues {and wound up with a few things missing}.

  6. I need a long one also and it was way to expensive. So I went to home depot and had them cut a clothes closet wooden rod, stained it and it worked perfectly. Put the rod through a pretty holder and it looks terrific. Just a suggestion.

  7. I love your family room it's looking really pretty…
For your drapes have you tried half price drapes???

    Smiles~

  8. I love your added touch to the house already! Love those large baskets on each side of your sofa too. I hate moving. I know you must be glad to have that process over with.

  9. Your home is already beautiful – what an amazing view !
Have you tried overstock.com for your drapes – I have bought quite a few drapes and natural fiber blinds there. Can't beat the prices and shipping is $2.95 for everything!

  10. Love the room, it looks amazing. Yes, I just used some tablecloths from a company cally Boscov's and they have clothes in all kinds of styles and colors that measure as long as 142" for as low as $10.95 each. The fabric is really nice, so you might want to check them out.

  11. No offense to the previous owners, but your family room is a huge improvement.

We moved in 1997 to our little beach cottage and we tell everyone that we will never move again.

  12. Hi Sherry, I totally understand how you are feeling; we have been in our home two weeks now and I am just starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have spent two days in my sewing room and it is still in need of several more days of work. I've got a lot of art hung, but still more to go.
I'm sorry you had such bad movers. Just think in another month, you'll be able to smile at all you've done. I love your family room!
    Have a restful evening.

  13. I hate moving and packing, but I love the fun of redecorating, even though it's a lot of work. You look like you are off and running to a great start! Beautiful 🙂

  14. Try Paul's Home Fashions……I think they are very reasonable, don't know if they carry that length though…..The room looks lovely already and I see you've changed your look!!!

  15. Beautiful, Sherry. You have definitely stepped it up a notch (or three or five)from the prior owner's décor! Love the pillow colors. I know exactly what you mean about movers from Hell, we had them TWICE. I'm sure we could trade war stories:)Hang in there! xoKathleen

  16. I'll second that!! Moving is such an arduous process. I cannot figure out why some people move so much. 😉

During our last move the skies decided to open and the rain came down in buckets, side-wise, all. day. long. I expected everything to be ruined when the truck was unloaded a few days later. Fortunately it wasn't. I think it was only by the grace of God.

Your room is coming together beautifully! I love the bright blue pops and the coral (am I right on the color) pillow really brings life to your room. I love how light and bright and cheerful it is. And I'm surprised that the room is so bright with the pool & enclosure right behind the windows.

I'm so happy for you to finally be getting settled in. Living in limbo is very tiring.

Blessings on you, Sherry, in your new home. May everyone who steps in the door find peace and grace. [hugs]

Thanks for sharing your new home with us at Project Inspire{d}!!

p.s. How about table cloths for drapes? Check with Marty at A Stroll Through Life, I think she got some Buffalo check table cloths for a song not too long ago.

  17. You are so right that moving house isn't for sissies. Shudder!!

Your new family room has come together must charmingly! I know it must be a haven as you deal with unpacking all the boxes that remain and arranging other areas. Have you been swimming yet?

Do canvas tarps come in the size you need? Then again, you can always add complimentary fabric to the bottom of the longest panels you can find. Good luck finding what will please you and at good prices.

    Hugs!

  18. I am sure in about a year your house
will be over the top fabulous
i know of fabric houses on west coast maybe on east coast , you may need a good seamstress to sew you up some panels 123 inches long

  19. You must be so excited to have your treasures that have been in storage! Oh groan at the boxes on moving day. Have you looked for drapes at Ikea?…Just a thought. Love the view!

    Carol

  20. You're right Sherry, moving is tough. I've moved 10 times and it never gets easier. Your room is looking great and love the view of your pool. Can't wait to see more.

  21. It looks gorgeous, you have completely brought the room to life. I adore the console you have at the back of your sofa, I have not seen anything quite like that before.

It all takes time when moving into a new house, I am sure you will have it exactly how you want it, in time.

    Lee 🙂

  22. Oh my Sherry…it is looking fabulous already…I am so anxious to see your home coming together…I have missed your incredible posts of your design work and creativity…you truly inspire me!!! … I love, love the rush seat stools!!!

  23. wow!!! what a difference from the previous owners. it looks great!!!!! love it – love the vignette in front of the window with the two chairs. congrats on your new house – use it in good health!

  24. It is already looking wonderful with your beautiful things in it. Congratulations on what you have accomplished so far!

  25. Oh Sherry – I know what hell it can be – John says the next move is to the funeral home LMHO.
You've already done wonders – your family room is gorgeous – with that view it's sheer perfection.
Have you tried Half Price Drapes?
I've ordered several pairs from them now – always happy with the quality ( though a little pricey – they have great sales )I have to pay shipping – I believe it's free for the U.S !!!
    XOXO

  26. I just moved into a new/older home last week. The moving process was horrendous, but the moving guys were nice enough. I did have a few things that got damaged and I am waiting to hear back if I am going to get any sort of compensation.

I am having the same issue with draperies. I have a large bay window and a side window in my living area. I am going to need six drapery panels or eight if I put them in the foyer as well. I LOVE RH and Pottery Barn drapes, but not their prices. I wish I could sew and make my own! Their are options on eBay and Etsy as far as custom-made panels that are cheaper. I just ordered some fabric swatches from a girl on Etsy as well as from halfpricedrapes. I prefer natural fabrics like linen. I will let you know what I find that might work for you if you will do the same.

Your house if coming along nicely! I too am having issues with furniture placement due to windows and door openings as well. This 80-year-old house was also remodeled and recessed lighting added, so I don't have outlets everywhere I need them!
