My BIGGEST Win...Ever!

I have to share with you my biggest win ever.
Last month Swanky Outlet was having a sweepstakes for bloggers only.  Their on-line shop carries high-end bedding at a discount from department stores, boutiques and sample sales   The grand prize was a $500 gift certificate to their shop and 2nd place was $300 gift certificate
I was the grand prize winner!
Remember the new bedding I showed you  HERE?   Well,  I chose a down comforter to use with my new duvet.  I've owned a couple of inexpensive down comforters in the past and I was disappointed that they would go flat so quickly.  I spent the entire $500 win on this Hotel brand white goose down filled comforter.  The comforter was originally priced at $760 and it was on Oprah's Favorite Things in 2012!
I received the comforter last week and it is exactly what I was hoping for,  The 700 fill makes it
very full and puffy.  It will be perfect with my new bedding pictured below.

I can't wait to get back to Virginia and try out the bedding.
Thank you Swanky Outlet !

Check out their wonderful selection of designer bedding and
watch for their frequent giveaways.

Open House Party

Welcome to the Open House party!

I guess you noticed there was no Open House party last week. I want to thank all of you
that emailed me wanting to know if I was okay.
I am fine,  but my laptop wasn't.  My computer crashed and it was in the shop for six
days. They were able to save most of my data... at a big price of course.  The laptop is
going back to the shop tomorrow because all my email is going to trash.
Since there was no party last week,  there will not be features at this party.  Hopefully,
next week we will be back to normal.

Thanks for visiting and please feel free to join the party this week without
linking back to me.

The Big Crash and New Bedding.

Hello everyone.
I hope you had a great weekend.
I owe a big apology to those of you that dropped by last week for the Open House party. My laptop crashed on Tuesday evening and I just got it back from the shop yesterday.  Everything is back to normal and I hope to see you at the party this week.
You know how much I like anything blue and white so you can imagine how deeply I feel in love with this comforter I found on Pinterest. The comforter cover was originally sold at Macy's and Saks Fifth Ave.  After seeing the price of $440 for just the comforter cover I knew my love would go unfulfilled....sigh!

Months later while browsing through Joss and Mann I saw the elusive comforter cover for sale.  At the price of $70 for a king I couldn't order it quick enough!  A search on EBay landed me the linen bed skirt at a fraction of the original price.  The bedding has been discontinued so I am still looking for the pillow shams.  I have a beautiful antique linen tablecloth that is the same soft blue color and I may have this made into shams.
When I received the bedding I was thrilled.  It is even more beautiful than pictured and the color is the prettiest shade of soft blue.
I am so excited to be going home in March for the first time in seven months.  I am taking dad with me and we plan on being there for a few weeks.   Pictures of our bedroom with the new bedding will be posted then.
Thanks for visiting and have a great week.

Grow Your Blog

Welcome to  Grow Your Blog  sponsored by Vicki @ 2 Bags Full.
Vicki did a great job putting this party together and I wanted to thank her
for all her hard work.

I am a day late joining the party due to computer problems.  All is well now and I
am back to blogging.
At 2 Bags Full  you'll find links to almost four hundred blogs...all there to
meet new people and hopefully grow their blogs.  I am always excited to
find new blogs with similar interests as mine.  Looks like I'll be busy for
quite a while going through all the links at the party!
For those of you not familiar with "No Minimalist Here" I thank you for visiting
for the first time.  Our move from  Florida to Virginia. three years ago prompted
me to start blogging.  Hubby and I sold our home in Florida fully furnished
(they even bought our pots, pans & dishes)  and we had to pretty much start
decorating our new home from scratch.
My friends and family know how much I love decorating, they were asking
me to email them pictures as we worked on our home. I decided the best way
to share our progress was through starting a blog. Never in a million years did I
dream No Minimalist Here would grow to the size it is now, nor did I think anyone
other than a few family and friends would even visit.
I truly appreciate each and everyone of you that have made this blog such
a fun and wonderful experience for me.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
For those of you that are visiting here for the first time, or are relatively new
followers,  I am highlighting below are just a few of my favorite projects.
Above is one of the first projects I showed on my new blog... Ballard Design Knockoff
It is still one of the most visited post even three years later.
Make Your Own Chalk Paint For $4.00  to date has had over 200,000 visitors and still has
more views each week than any other post.  Who would have ever thought?

I saw a great Lazy Susan at Pottery Bar and decided to try to recreate the look.   The
Pottery Barn Inspired Piece is still one of my favorites...even if it did only cost me $1.00.

Covering the altar candlesticks with Spackle really transformed the bright
gold finish on this pair.

Thanks for dropping by and you can find more of my frugal projects in the
archives. Also,  I would love for you to link up to the Open House party held right
 here starting every Wednesday evening.

I will try to get around to visiting everyone linked to the
Grow Your Blog Party.   In the meantime just leave a comment that
you are a new follower here and I will happily follow back.

Confit and Olive Jars

I hope you had a good weekend.

I have always had this "thing" for confit pots and olive jars, even before
they became so popular.  My first purchase was from a flea market over
twenty five years ago.  I probably paid about $15.00 for the first pot.

Confit pots were originally used in the South of France to store meat
and other perishable food. They would be filled and then buried in the
ground to keep the food cool.

The antique pots have now become very expensive and a lot harder
to find.  I have seen rare ones priced as high as $900 and others
normally sell from $185 and up, depending on condition.  Fortunately
there are reproductions that can be bought at a fraction of the price.
No, they do not have the charm of the antiques but many are still very
pretty and look great in a French Country style home.

Recently Steve and I stopped in downtown Winter Park for lunch on the
way to take him to the airport.  Winter park is such a cute town with great
shops and restaurants.  We went to a French outdoor cafe for lunch and guess
what was across the street?   A Pottery Barn!

Pottery Barn had this yellow confit  pot at 70% off.  How could I resist?

The dark olive jar was found at the same flea market where I bought the
giant clam shell.  I couldn't believe an antique dealer was selling the jar for
$10.00.  Between this purchase and the clam shell bargain I was dancing on air!

Below are just a few photos of my confit pot collection, both new and antique.

These are just a few of my collection. Sorry,  I can't find pictures of all the pots.
I currently have four antique confits and three reproductions.

Before I leave I want to share a picture of my favorite olive jar.

This is just one of my many didn't think the name of
my blog was a coincidence?

To see more Confit pots check out my Pinterest Board,  French Country.
I would love for you to follow me while there.

What do you collect?

Thanks to everyone that joined the Open House party last week and
I hope to see you Wednesday evening for this weeks party.

Clearwater Beach In January

It's 83 degrees today in Central Florida!

Last Summer I was dying from the heat but this time of year I
cherish it.  A couple of days ago Steve flew back to Virginia and he
wasn't happy about going back to Winter weather.

Thanks for all the kind (and funny) comments on our recent trip to
Tarpon Springs.  We finished up our weekend by visiting Clearwater
Beach.  After a yummy seafood lunch we walked along the beach
and enjoyed the beautiful weather.

Unknown family enjoying the beach.

There were even a few people in the ocean.

There were still lots of people at the beach as the sun went down.

Not a bad way to spend a weekend in January!
I hope you are enjoying the Winter season.

Winter Getaway

Hi Everyone!
I thought you might like seeing what Winter looks like in central Florida.
(Yes, Steve thinks I am crazy for taking pictures of his feet!)
Last weekend Steve and I took a little breather and visited Tarpon Springs and
Clearwater Beach.  We started our weekend in downtown Tarpon Springs where
there are thirteen antique shops covering several blocks. Of course we had to go
in every one.  Our second stop was  the Sponge Dock area which is a small
Greek community famous for their  sponges.  They still dive for the sponges
and they are sold all of the world and at local shops.
I have lots of memories of visiting the dock area as a child.  I am sure it was
the great Greek food that kept my parents coming back.  The food is still
wonderful and the Greek pastries....fabulous!  The town has its share of tacky
souvenir shops, but so did the towns we visited on our trip to Greece.

See the chocolate roll pastry on the was yummy!   I can also vouch
for the baklava.

The landscaping at the hotel was very pretty.

The next day we headed to Clearwater Beach for a seafood lunch and a
walk on the beach.  I'll be back later to share those photos.

Thanks for dropping by and I hope to see you Wednesday night
for the Open House Party.

Open House Party

Welcome to the Open House party.
I hope everyone had a great News Years.  There is an old saying "What you do on New
Years day is what you will be doing the rest of the year."   If this is true I should have a
very lucky 2013.  I received an email yesterday that I had won $500 of bedding from
a blog giveaway. Yippee!  I'll  be back later to share my win.

There were so many great links to last weeks part and I chose a few to feature this week.

Amanda at Dixie Delights  showed us her pretty New Years tablescape using collard
greens as a centerpiece.  Check out her recipe for champagne cupcakes and champagne
jello shots.  Did you eat collard greens to bring more money to you in 2013?
This beautiful bedroom belongs to Kristel @ The Velvet Door. Visit her blog
to see the wonderful transformation of her bedroom and master bath.
I don't know anyone that enjoys decorating for Christmas more than Debbie at
A Debbie-Dabble Christmas.   In this post she answers questions about decorating
her nineteen beautiful trees and the many Christmas vignettes.
