Auction Purchase & Open House Spring Break

I hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to
a fun weekend.

The Open House party will be going on Spring break for a
few weeks.   I'll still be posting and visiting you, the party will
just be on a short hiatus.  I need a little breather and the time
to catch up on reading my favorite blogs, returning emails and
finishing some long overdue projects.  I'll be returning soon with
more beautiful homes to share and a fabulous giveaway!

A couple of weeks ago I went to an auction liquidating the
inventory of a very expensive home decor shop.  I was the high bidder
on two beautiful Italian pottery pieces.  They still had the original price
of $395.00 each on them!  You all know I am  rather very frugal and
there was no way I would pay anywhere near that amount.
I filled one of the urns with seashells and a white sea fan from my Etsy
shop.  I know it is hard to tell in the photo but this piece is huge and weighs
a ton.  I can barely lift it even when empty.

The other urn is currently sitting empty awaiting some pretty plants.  We are
headed to the nursery tomorrow so I'll be back soon to show you the other urn.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

I'll be partying at...

Hi Everyone!
Welcome to the Open House party.

Shenita explains her decorating style as  "gumbo"'s a little Southern and Traditional, a
pinch of Old World, a dash of Tuscan, a drop of Contemporary and a sprinkle of French".
  I call her style fabulous!

Enjoy the tour...

Shenita,  Thank you for sharing your lovely home this week.

Today we have another beautiful home to tour.  Suzanne is the author of
the wonderful blog Meridian Road  and she and her husband live on a

Not only does she have wonderful decorating style but Suzanne is one
very creative lady.  You'll have to check out her blog to see all her
fabulous projects.

Enjoy the tour...

How great are these lockers?

I've always loved a farm house sink.

I hope you will drop by Meridian Road and tell Suzanne you saw
her home at the Open House party.

Suzanne,  Thank you for sharing your lovely home at the party.

Before & After~The French Project

Before I show you my newest project I want to thank each and everyone
that sent their congrats on my Romantic Homes Magazine Feature
I so appreciate your friendship and your support of my blog.  Without
all of you this feature would not have happened.

Thank you!

Lately I have been working on several projects to lighten-up our
house but I only have one completed to show you today.

Below is a picture of the family room taken prior to painting.

The darker art work wasn't going back up so I ordered
original antique french letters from Vintage Paper Attic's
Etsy shop and then went on the search for frames.  Michaels  had
some very shiny gold frames I liked and I knew they could
be painted with my  DIY Chalk Like Paint

White craft paint was mixed with calcium carbonate to create the
chalk paint.  The frames were painted, distressed and then glazed.
I didn't want a brown glaze on these so I used a transparent glaze
from Home Depot and added light gray craft paint to it.

I added  two 11x14 frames inside a larger frame.  Normally
I would add something more to the wall but because of the
new wall paint I'll probably leave it as is.

If you have been reading my blog lately you already know I
have been trying to lighten-up our decor to sell our home.  We
recently had our khaki green family room walls painted
a neutral beige to appeal to more buyers.

Yesterday Steve and I went to the sneak peek of the upcoming
Homearama in our neighborhood.  Each home is being professionally
decorated and will be open to the public in late April.

I was totally floored when EACH home we went into had very dark painted
walls in almost every room.  Chocolate brown, dark blue and gold were
popular wall colors.

Can you guess what wall color was in every single home
we visited?

Khaki green!!

Featured At Romantic Homes Magazine

Hi Everyone.

I just had to share my exciting news.

My blog was featured in the Site Seeing section of
Romantic Homes magazine.  I am absolutely thrilled to be featured
in the April issue along with some of my favorite blogs.

I received an email several months ago from an editor at Romantic Homes
saying she would like to feature my blog in the April issue and could I email her
some photos.

Being the skeptic that I am, my first reaction was "yeah right" and then I immediately
began to narrow down in my mind which of my friends was playing a joke on me.   So
what does a skeptic do but google the editors name and sure enough she was legit.

Thanks to all of you that have sent congrats and a special thank you
to Paula @ Ivy And Elephants. I couldn't find the issue for sale anywhere
and Paula was kind enough to post a picture of it on Facebook for me.

I am still kinda doing the happy dance!

Hugs, Sherry

Open House Party

Welcome to the Open House Party.

If you are a regular reader of my blog then you know how much I love
transferware.  Today I am featuring a home that has the most beautiful
collection of transferware I have ever seen.

Nancy @ Nancy's Daily Dish and her family moved into their current home a little
less than a year ago.  To say the house was a total disaster would be an understatement!
The entire family has worked hard to repair and renovate the property and you can
check out her blog to see the before pictures.

Nancy's Daily Dish  is a blog full of gorgeous tablescapes, recipes and
stunning home design.  She generously shares her extensive knowledge
of transferware with her readers.  I have learned so much from Nancy
and she has been kind enough to answer a few questions for me on my
own pieces.

Enjoy the tour....

Gorgeous transferware in the master bedroom.

Children's bedrooms are below.

I couldn't let the tour end without showing you a few of Nancy's gorgeous tablescapes.

Have you ever seen a more beautiful Thanksgiving table?

I would love for you to visit  Nancy's Daily Dish and let her know you saw her home featured
at the Open House party.  Also, check out her Etsy shop for a fabulous collection of
transferware for sale.

Nancy, Thank you for sharing your beautiful home at this weeks Open House.

Now on to the Linky party...

Restoration Hardware New Deconstructed Look

Restoration Hardware has just announced their new Deconstructed Line.

I can't say I am loving it but I am eager to hear what you think.

I like the burlap and even don't mind the wood showing.  I know the nail holes would
drive me crazy and my OCD would never let me live with the pieces of fabric hanging
from the nails.   The first thing I would have to do is get tweezers and pull out the fabric!

I do love this headboard though.

The first thing that popped in my head upon seeing this new line was "what would my dad say".
I had to laugh because he has never understood shabby chic and I know he would hate this
deconstructed look.  Dad always has a comment when he visits our home about our painted
distressed furniture.  He will say very kindly that it is a really pretty piece and would
look nice if it was stripped down and refinished.

Sorry dad,  the painted furniture is staying, though I think I'll pass on the
deconstructed pieces.

What are your thoughts?

 Do you like this look?

Open House Party

Welcome to the Open House Party.

The beautiful home we will be touring today belongs to Yvonne @ Stone Gable
Yvonne recently took a little break from blogging and I was so happy to see
she was back posting.  I have to tell you I am a big fan of Stone Gable and
I really missed seeing her amazing post each week.

On to the tour...

Fabulous Family room.
You know I love the blue and white pottery.

How gorgeous is this farmhouse kitchen?  The kitchen was recently
remodeled so check out Stone Gable for the before pictures

I could move right in.

One of Yvonne's talents is cooking and she
shares the most delicious recipes on her blog. Is this not the most
beautiful pear salad you have ever seen?

Not only does she share yummy recipes but the presentation is always beautiful.

Yvonne also creates the most gorgeous tablescapes.  Here's just a little
sample of what you can expect to find on her blog.

I told you she was a multi-talented lady!
You will also find great tutorials at Stone Gable.

Make your own body scrub.

If that wasn't enough she also gardens.

I have told Yvonne she should write a cookbook and share her gorgeous
tablescapes in the book.  I would be the first in line to purchase.

Thanks to Yvonne for sharing her amazing home at the Open House party.  I
hope you will drop by Stone Gable and welcome Yvonne back.

Enjoy the party.
