Growing up in Florida I dreamed of a white Christmas. I always felt a little cheated of the full holiday experience without snow. Holiday movies show people ice skating on a frozen pond, sledding down a snowy hill or children building snowmen and having snowball fights. I always wondered what it would be like to ride a horse drawn sleigh, go snowshoeing in the woods or just catch snowflakes on my tongue.
This year in Virginia we had a white Christmas…my very first! The snow was beautiful and the scenery looked just like everything I had always imagined for Christmas.
Even though I loved the snow, there are still things I miss about Florida this time of year. Christmas as a Floridian does have it’s benefits…eighty degrees, dining alfresco, palm trees glowing with lights, walks on the beach at sunset and ice cream on the front porch. As a child we would play outside until dark, catch lightening bugs and even on occasion go swimming Christmas day.
This year I have realized more than ever it doesn’t matter if you are wearing snow pants or shorts, Christmas is the same everywhere. The spirit of Christmas is in your heart and it is about sharing our lives with those we love.
Sherry, your house looks so pretty in the snow. We had snow too yesterday, but some of it melted today. I hear the folks in New York are really getting slammed with snow. Glad I am in the south! Have a great week!
Hello Sherry…Christmas, is, indeed, in one's heart. It's such a beautiful season. I absolutely love it. Right now we are in the middle of a huge BLIZZARD and it is a bad one. Take care and have a good Monday. Sincerely, Susan
I have similar childhood memories of Christmas growing up in Australia…Today like you I was reflecting on how much I would love for it to be hot and at the beach for Boxing Day…Maybe because it got cold enough to snow in FL this yr…Literally 10miles up the road from here had snow.
I am so glad you got to experience your first white Christmas though, it is very surreal and wonderful feeling.
Blessings Kelsie
Your house is gorgeous in the snow! Merry Christmas!
Snow here, too … not as much as you got, I see. It looks lovely!
It is pretty & we had our first in SC this year too but I have to admit that I think I'd like the Florida version better. Brrrr.
Hi Sherry!
First of all…your home is gorgeous and it looks lovely all covered in snow! I am waking up in NY this morning to over 2 feet of snow and really high drifts! Tomorrow I head south to visit my Mom in Florida and I can't wait! I guess you could say I am getting the best of both worlds this year! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 🙂
Sherry, I'm glad you got to experience a White Christmas. Your home looks beautiful blanketed in snow. My SIL is visiting from Florida this year for Christmas and although we certainly have snow on the ground we haven't had a good "lake effect" snow since she got here.
so YOU are one of those people who wished for all this white stuff.
I keep reminding mmyself that snow is good for spring crops.
Not that I don't enjoy it, but small doses does it for me.
I was watching some chrsitmas movies this year showing California families and thinking how weird it was that there was not snow. I've lived such a sheltered life.
How exciting! We've had several white Christmases (and occasionally a white Easter) here in Germany, but this year it was magical. All our snow had melted, but on Christmas Eve it started snowing, just like in the movies! By Christmas morning we had about 6 inches on the ground! Yay for white Christmases!!!
I am absolutely thrilled that you got to enjoy a white Christmas!…really nothing quite like it. May you and your family continue to enjoy all of the wonder of the season.

We had a blizzard here last night in Boston and I would love to go outside and take pics of our house covered in a big white blanket, but its too cozy inside for me to want to go out there! YOur house looks so pretty with the snow and the woods.
Your house is beautiful in the snow!
Enjoying my first white Christmas too. We get some snow but it is usually in Jan.
Hi Sherry! Oh, I am so thrilled for you that you got to have a White Christmas. There is just nothing quite like it! Your house looks just perfect in the snow and it sounds like you had a great time!

Wow, I guess from Florida to Virginia was a big change huh? Your house looks beautiful. We got a small amount, and I snapped as many pictures as I could, because who knows when this will happen again. I am surprised tho, I just thought Virginia got lots of snow. Anyhoo, hope you have a Happy New Year.
How wonderful for the snow. I would have loved that. Happy New Year. Mona
Sherry your home looks so beautiful in the snow. Like a Christmas card.
Our snow is still sticking around. The temps are near 40 but it's still here.
So pretty! Living in Chicago my whole life I had the opposite childhood. Dining al fresco sounds pretty good about now!
Have a happy new year!
Your snow pictures are beautiful, Sherry. So happy you had a white Christmas. I experienced my first one last year.
Thank you for your sweet comment about my great-grandparents Christmas wedding anniversary.
Wishing you a heartfelt happy and fullfilling New Year!
Merry Christmas Sherry! We had some snow 'left-overs' but nothing that was promised. I look forward to snow this time of year, talk to me again in March… I will be singing a different tune! Theresa xoxo
