Art And Antiques for Mothers Day

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mothers Day.
Steve and I took a little trip to the Chesapeake area this
weekend.   From our home it is a short drive to Williamsburg
and Jamestown where we caught a car ferry across the James River.
It was a beautiful morning and the perfect day to be outside.
Our first stop was the darling town of Smithfield,  home of the
Smithfield ham.  Historic Main street has several antique and home decor
shops and some of the cutest homes.

This Victorian is a pet shop.  See the darling bird cage cover on the porch?
Later that afternoon we headed over to the historic district in Portsmouth.
If you love crab the Chesapeake is the place to go.  I had my share this
weekend with crab cakes, she crab soup and artichoke crab dip…yum!
The next morning we enjoyed the Art Festival held in Olde Town
Portsmouth and then did a little more antiquing before heading home.
I’ll be back to show you one of my favorite shops in Portsmouth and what came home
with us from this trip.
Hugs,
Sherry

  1. I thought that pet shop is a house. Looks like you had a wonderful time visiting the place. Thanks for sharing this post. 🙂

  2. I live a hop away from downtown Portsmouth. I hope you were able to wall in the Old Town residental area. There are some beautifully restored homes from the 1700's and 1800's. I have two favorite shops on High Street, but I won't mention their names, not wanting to spoil your next post.

My son will soon be living in Old Town Portsmouth! We'll have great seats for the summer fireworks =)

Did you go into the Christmas shop in Smithfield? They have wonderful and magical items!

    Glad you liked your visit.

  3. It looks like a wonderful day! My father always ordered a Smithfield ham around Christmas time. What great looking places you found. xo Diana

  4. Sherry,
What a fun weekend getaway. I'm jealous of all of you lucky people that live in the eastern portion of the nation, it seems you can drive for a very little bit and arrive in a new state. California is so very long and fairly wide…an our bordering states of Arizona and Nevada aren't known for a ton of antique stores or historic buildings.
    Yes, I'm a cry baby! 🙂
I love the image of the first house…rose covered picket fence, dormers, sigh.

  5. How fun to take a little trip North for a few minutes. What beautiful sights and such a change from down here in South Florida. Thanks for the mini vacation. I found this post through Savvy Southern Style's link party.

  6. Sherry, I LOVE Williamsburg. We visited there several years ago and I'd love to go back. OH,and you had crab cakes too? Yum!

  7. Such a coincidence! A good friend of mine is there with her husband right now. She also posted a photo of the ferry, and today there was a bell tower! This looks like a fun place to visit.
