Fixer Upper Spinoff

Fans of the popular HGTV show “Fixer Upper” will soon be able to get an extra dose of design tips. A new spin-off series called “Fixer Upper: Behind the Design” will debut March 28, and more episodes are expected to air later in the year.

“Fixer Upper” co-hosts Chip and Joanna Gaines went on Instagram to share a sneak peek of the upcoming series.  In the original “Fixer Upper,” Chip and Joanna lead future homeowners in buying a house in need of some TLC.  Once the house is chosen, Joanna takes on the role of designer, while Chip works as the lead contractor. “Fixer Upper: Behind the Scenes” intends to give viewers an in-depth look at Joanna’s interior design process.

The new series will showcase Joanna’s designs of the homes featured on show. Producers know how much viewers enjoy seeing the final renovations, so they took the next step in the concept for the spinoff.
“We’re already shooting all this content with Chip and Jo, so let’s keep the cameras rolling when she’s deciding if the pillows should be blue or gray,” Kathleen Finch, chief of programming for Scripps Networks Interactive told Adweek. “So you get the full-on home renovation in ‘Fixer Upper,’ but in this new show, you get the behind the scenes—the pillow choices, the paint color, the softer side of design—to give die hard fans more detail on something that they love.”
Feeding The “Fixer Upper” Frenzy
“Fixer Upper” ranks as one of television’s most popular shows, and is the most watched series on HGTV. For example, based on Neilsen ratings posted for March 22, a special episode of the show had nearly 3.8 million viewers in the important demographic of people age 18 to 49. This performance ranked No. 1 for original shows on cable networks for the night, beating out popular programs like Fox News Channel’s “The O’Reilly Factor” and “WWE Smackdown” on USA Network.

  1. This is the first I've heard of this. How exciting! I will admit that I usually record the show and skip to the end. The new show will be perfect for me. 🙂

  2. I did watch it and am happy they will be doing this show. I can't get enough of Chip and Joanna, and I am far above the target age group! I feel sorry for any shows of this type that come on now as they will always be held up to C&J standards, and I'm afraid they might not reach tall enough..Happy Week..Judy
