I had been looking a while for a mirror to go above a dresser. The problem was I needed a very large mirror and everything I found was hundreds of dollars.
While digging through a local antique mall junk store I came across this very sad mirror. It was exactly the size I needed and for $15.00 I knew I could make it a beauty.
I cannot find the before picture…time to clean out Picasso. This is a picture I borrowed from Craigslist of a very similar mirror. Sorry about the quality.
Before
I painted the mirror a creamy white to match our bed. I added appliques of roses to the top and bottom of the piece. Distressed with sandpaper and then applied Ralph Lauren glaze in Smoke. I love the way this project turned out and it works perfectly with our other bedroom pieces.
WOW! Shabby chic gorgeousness!
very nice! I love the roses!
Such a lovely transformation – very elegant!

Thanks for sharing and for linking back! 🙂
Hi It's nice to meet you. Great minds think alike, I did almost the exact same thing to my mirror that is like yours minus the glaze. I painted all my furniture white and liked it so much that I never did the glaze. Figured I can always do it later. For stories and pictures stop by and look through my order posts.
Your mirror looks splendid and I love the glaze you did. It has me thinking.

Hi Sherry! What a beautiful result! It's gorgeous!…Debbie
Just found your site today. Love your style. I am a shabby chic lover and am in the process of painting everything white : ) I haven't tried glazes yet but am going right over to Home Depot and getting some Ralph Lauren Smoke. After seeing your mirror I am going to tackle one I have that is dark brown. I too would love to know where you purchased your roses, pretty please. Blessings.
That classic touch is unmistakable, so I am surprised you don't like Picasso.
Lovely mirror, looks so romantic. For all of those wanting to know where to get the applique, I found one just like it at doityourselfchic.com it is the Shabby Chic Rose Center (large) under the category Shabby Roses. Hope this helps.
