New Years Resolution For Patience

Happy New Year

I don't normally make New Year resolutions.  I found out long time ago that I was not very good at keeping them.  Lets just say "willpower" is not something I excel in.  Note the name of this blog.
So, instead of making a resolution I am making a promise to myself.  I will find joy in the small things, cherish every moment with my family,  show patience and understanding in difficult situations and let my loved ones know how very much they mean to me.
I found this sweet letter on Pinterest and wanted to share it with you.

Letter from a Father to a Daughter:

"My dear girl, the day you see I’m getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through. If when we talk, I repeat the same thing a thousand times, don’t interrupt to say: “You said the same thing a minute ago”... Just listen, please. Try to remember the times when you were little and I would read the same story night after night until you would fall asleep. When I don’t want to take a bath, don’t be mad and don’t embarrass me. Remember when I had to run after you making excuses and trying to get you to take a shower when you were just a girl? When you see how ignorant I am when it comes to new technology, give me the time to learn and don’t look at me that way... remember, honey, I patiently taught you how to do many things like eating appropriately, getting dressed, combing your hair and dealing with life’s issues every day... the day you see I’m getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through. If I occasionally lose track of what we’re talking about, give me the time to remember, and if I can’t, don’t be nervous, impatient or arrogant. Just know in your heart that the most important thing for me is to be with you. And when my old, tired legs don’t let me move as quickly as before, give me your hand the same way that I offered mine to you when you first walked. When those days come, don’t feel sad... just be with me, and understand me while I get to the end of my life with love. I’ll cherish and thank you for the gift of time and joy we shared. With a big smile and the huge love I’ve always had for you, I just want to say, I love you... my darling daughter. "

When things get difficult I go back to read this letter and realize any sacrifices I make are
nothing compared to those my dad made for me.

Dad,  I wonder when I was a teenager if you made the same promise to
to be patient with meLord knows, I tested your patience every chance I got!

My life is filled with many blessings.  Thank you for your friendship, encouragement
and support throughout 2012.

Top DIY Projects Of 2012

Hi everyone.
I am joining Rhoda at  Southern Hospitality for the Top DIY Projects of

I made pillows to add some color to our newly painted family room.

Framed antique French Letters.

Summer Mantle with  new architectural piece.

 Framed Intaglios.

Painted a new chalkboard.

Adding Patina to this Ex-Voto

I featured my collection of  Fall Decor.

I jumped on the bandwagon and made velvet pumpkins.

Open House Party

Welcome to the Open House Party.
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
Our holiday was quieter than normal but still very nice.  Dad, Steve and I
opened gifts and then I prepared a tradition holiday dinner.  The Grandloves are
celebrating in New York this year but we did open gifts on Saturday with them.
They face timed with us Christmas day and we got to see all their new toys.
Love this feature on my IPad!
I am having trouble downloading pictures.  I can't even enlarge the
party button above.  Sorry, but there will be no post featured from last
week.  That doesn't mean we can't have a party though!
Thanks for visiting and I look forward to seeing what you have to share.

On to the party...

Christmas 2011 & The Perfect Win

Happy Holidays
One of my favorite blogs is written by Ron at Uptown Acorn .  You can only
imagine how excited I was when I received an email from Ron saying I was
the winner of his recent giveaway.  We both share a love for coastal design and
his New Orleans home is decorated with the most beautiful oyster plates.
Last year Ron commissioned these wonderful oyster shell ornaments for his
Christmas tree. I fell in love with them the minute I saw them on his tree and
I am thrilled that my name was chosen to receive two similar shells.
 Thank you, Ron!
I am sure you will see these ornaments pop up in many future post.
Below you can see how perfect the oyster shells go with my 2011 Christmas
You can see more of our 2011 Christmas decor  HEREHERE and  HERE.

Open House Party

Welcome to the Open House party.

Thank you for joining the party each week!

Only six days till Christmas!

  Are you ready?

Enjoy the wonderful inspiration from last weeks party....

I had to giggle at the conversation Suzan @ Simply Vintageous had with
her husband about decorating this ladder.  I love it SuzyQ.

Judy @ JBigg's Little Pieces shared her daughters beautiful tree that
she helped decorate.

This amazing cloche was the centerpiece of a beautiful table created
by Linda at  A Toile Tale.

Katie @ Creatively Living  gives us a tour of her home beautifully
decorated for Christmas.

I hope you enjoyed the features.  There will be no Open House party
next Thursday as we will be celebrating the holiday with family.

Two of my grandchildren will be visiting tomorrow and I will be giving them
lots of hugs and kisses. After last weeks terrible tragedy I will be holding on to
them tightly and praying for their safety.

Wishing each of you a Happy Holiday.

Not A Paperwhite In Sight

Before Thanksgiving I always buy Paperwhite bulbs so they will
be blooming at Christmas.  Traditionally you can find dozens of
Paperwhites scattered around our home.  I love to put them in antique
urns and tie pretty ribbons around the stems when they can no longer
stand straight.
I even bought a rusty urn to put the bulbs in this year.
This year my search for the bulbs took me to every big box store and
plant nurseries in my dad's town.
Can you believe there was not a Paperwhite to be found?
I even had a funny experience at the local Home Depot store.  I asked
a clerk if they carried Paperwhite bulbs and she looked at me rather
She picked up the phone and paged the electric department
saying a customer has a question on light bulbs GEEZ
Okay, I know I am in Florida and the plant aisles are still full of palm trees
and blooming hibiscus, but you would think these little bulbs would not
be so hard to find.
I have been browsing for pictures of the elusive flowers....I may have to
make copies and post them throughout the house.
Below are some of my favorite photos.

What's a girl to do?

I planted a palm tree in my new rusty urn! There are an abundance of palms
and they are inexpensive at $4.50 each.

The palm is currently sitting on dad's patio enjoying the Florida sunshine.

Next year I will be ordering
bulbs on-line... way before Thanksgiving
Did you get Paperwhites this year?

Happy Holidays.

Open House Party & Winner

Welcome to the Open House Party.

Thank you for joining in the fun.
Last week's party had so many beautiful links that made it really hard
to select just a few to feature.  I thought since we are just two weeks
from Christmas that I would feature homes decorated for the holiday.
It's not too late to gather some ideas for decorating your own home.

This pretty Winter White mantle was created by Deb at Vintage On A Dime.

Check out Barbara's beautiful Christmas mantle at 21 Rosemary Lane.

Nancy @  Nancy's Daily Dish  decorates her home with beautiful transferware and
now she has added it to a fabulous topiary.

Carolyn at  Desire Empire made these pretty cake pops using a cake pop maker.
Who knew there was such a thing?

If you didn't see my recent post featuring Gwen Moss blog and Leslie's gorgeous home
you can still see it here

Thanks to everyone that entered my recent giveaway.
The winner of the $40.00 Novica gift code is #13 Kelley.  Congrats and I will
be sending an email shortly.

On to the party....

A Little Christmas Decor

I hope you are enjoying the holiday season.
I  am normally a pretty organized person, especially when it comes
to preparing for the holidays.  By now our home would have been
decorated, all the gifts bought, wrapped and shipped.  The Christmas
dinner would be planned and most items already purchased.
Well, not this year!
I have a ton of Christmas decorations stored in the attic at our Virginia home.  Here at
dad's I was pretty much starting from scratch and needed to decorate on a budget.

I added bottle brush trees from the Dollar Tree to Dad's vintage truck.

The little tree was $2.00 at a thrift store and I added burlap around the
base.  Many of the ornaments came from GW or Dollar Tree.
(the picture looks crooked but actually the wall juts out)

Dad has a collection of vintage pocket watches that were added to the tree.

Several days after the tree was decorated I found a few boxes of vintage ball
ornaments in the garage.  Dad said he hadn't seen them in over thirty years!
I guess I need to clean and organize his garage next.

We added the vintage turquoise ornaments to the mantle.

Free greens added to a large copper pot.

This year we may not have the most decorated home or the prettiest decorations.

What we do have is a house full of love.

Happy Holidays,

House Feature & Giveaway

Are you familiar with the blog  Gwen Moss ?  If not you are missing
out on lots of eye candy.   Leslie's says her style is classic with lots of
vintage, country and french accents...I just call it GORGEOUS!
They bought this home as a fixer-upper and did a lot of the work themselves.
Leslie and her dad did all the brick on two fireplaces and Leslie herself added
the river rock to the attic room fireplace.
Their home is filled with boys and dogs and the attic room is everyone's
 favorite place to hang out.
Master Bedroom
Leslie's office with newly painted wood floors.
How beautiful is the dining room?  The slipcovered chairs are
so pretty and I love the wreaths on the shutters.
2012 Christmas in the living pretty.
I hope you will visit Gwen Moss  and see more of the beautiful home
